Ethernet Slip Rings Hollow Shaft - combinable with Rotary Union

The Ethernet slip rings with through-bore are rotating units used to transmit power, control circuits or analog and digital data signals from stationary inputs to rotating outputs. These electrical rotary joints provide secure and interference-free 100Base-T (100Mbps data rate) or 1000Base-T (1Gbps data rate) Ethernet connections and can be combined with 10 or 15 amp power connections. Standard models are available with 6 to18 additional circuits. By using high performance gold/gold contacts, these slip rings feature low electrical noise and can flawlessly transmit all common fieldbuses such as CAN Bus, EtherCat, Profibus, Sercos III, etc. Thanks to the Ethernet cables with assembled RJ45 connectors, the slip rings can be easily connected. Optionally, these electrical rotary joints are available with a higher degree of protection up to IP65 and can also be combined with media rotary joints for pneumatics, hydraulics and water. These Ethernet slip rings are very easy to mount and can also be used in tight and limited installation spaces. They prove themselves day after day in many applications in automation, production plants, robotics and medical technology.

Slip rings from TDS Precision Products GmbH: Highest quality for highest requirements

General description of slip rings

Slip rings transmit signals or electrical power from a fixed structure to a movable one, ensuring continuous rotation and preventing that the electrical conductors are stressed by mechanical torsion. The slip rings are also known as: electric rotary joint, electric collector, electric joint or electric coupling

What are slip rings made of?

Slip rings consist of two parts: an outer one called STATOR (because it is normally stationary) consisting of brushes made of precious material (gilded or silver plated copper) and an internal part called ROTOR (because it normally rotates) also consisting of rings made with precious materials. Operation is reversible, i.e. the external part, which is normally fixed, can be made to rotate and, as a result, the internal part (which normally rotates) can be kept fixed.

What is special about slip rings from TDS Precision Products GmbH?

Our electrical slip rings are characterized by particularly high-quality brushes and rings: We use special precious metals and bearings to manufacture these components. The high quality of the materials and the special geometry of the components make them very robust. As a customer, you benefit from these ideal properties thanks to a product service life of up to 50 million revolutions.

Slip rings for numerous applications

We offer slip rings for transmitting power and signals in various designs, each optimized for specific applications. These include electrical slip rings with hollow shafts as well as slip ring bodies with Ethernet cables or open, encapsulated and protected models. Our supplier factories manufacture these products under strict quality criteria and subject them to regular testing.

How do I install/mount my slip ring in my system?

CAUTION: Because of possible geometric mismatching between the customer’s application and the slip ring, “hard mounting” of both ends of the slip ring (i.e., securing the rotor and stator such that there is NO floating during operation) is not recommended and may cause premature failure..

Capsule slip rings, flange mount:

1) The slip ring enclosure is designed to be flange mounted with a cantilevered housing.
2) The rotor must be driven with a flexible coupling (e.g., rubber hose, spiral, or bellows) to compensate for any eccentricities during assembly. The rotor strands can be used as a flexible coupling for operation at speeds up to 5 rpm.
3) Use 3 bolts with washers to secure the slip ring. If lock washers are also used, flat washers should be installed between the lock washers and the flange. (Screws and washers are not included in the delivery)
4) The slip ring is not designed to support the weight of the unit to which it is connected. Rotating units should be secured so that no axial or radial load is applied to the rotary electrical rotary joint.
5) The slip ring should be protected from dust and moisture. For outdoor installations, the slip ring should be installed in a weatherproof enclosure.
6) Secure all wiring so that it does not rub against any surface when the unit is rotating. When routing and securing the cables, ensure that there is no side loading of the slip ring.

Mounting hollow shaft slip rings (rotary unions with through hole):

SHAFT MOUNTED UNITS
1) Position the slip ring at the desired location and tighten the two set screws on the shaft equally at both ends of the joint.
2) Route the wiring and make the necessary connections. Make sure that the wiring does not restrict the free rotation of the slip ring.
3) Insert a screw or dowel (not supplied) into the anti-rotation device.

FLANGED UNITS

1) Align the mounting holes in the flange with the mounting base and install washers and thread forming screws (NOT IN SUPPLY) for plastic. Tighten the screws securely.
2) Route the wiring and make the necessary connections. The wiring must not restrict the free rotation of the slip ring.
3) Insert a screw or dowel (not supplied) into the anti-rotation device.
