When is a rotating union for water needed?

A rotating union for water or other fluids allows the transfer of media between fixed and moving components and has thus long been one of the standard requirements in technical areas. Liquid and gaseous media are transmitted without loss and, if possible, without friction and can thus, for example, enable components in automotive engineering to work together.

A rotating union for water is often required when lathes and milling machines are to undergo parts cleaning at regular intervals or also for technical equipment that relies on water as a coolant. The areas of application are so varied that there are a large number of standardised rotating unions for water and yet there is still plenty of room for special designs.

One-way and multi-channel rotating unions for water

For comparatively simple partial constructions, it is sufficient to design the rotating union for water with only one channel. Through this channel, the fluid moves from the stationary to the moving area or vice versa. If one transfer path is not sufficient, multi-channel models are used as an alternative. A multi-way rotary joint for water has at least two and often one or two dozen channels for transmission. The paths are strictly separated from each other, with high-quality seals ensuring that no mixing of media is possible. Depending on the design and construction material, the one-way and multi-way rotary unions for water and co. can achieve different levels of revolutions per minute and also differ significantly in terms of pressure intensity. From a few bars to over 1,000 bars, many gradations are possible.

A popular model of one-way rotating union for water is "JC". Oil, air and other media can also be transferred here with frictionless operation and up to 50 bar. The maximum speed is 3,500 revolutions per minute. In cleaning systems as well as sanitary installations, the rotating union "SCS" is frequently used for water, gases as well as oils and foodstuffs. The passage can be varied between 15 and 97 millimeters at a pressure of up to 15 bar. If high pressure up to 500 bar is required, we recommend the GP/GPS rotating union. Water and other media can be distributed to up to twelve channels with this. Even 515 bar and up to 24 channels are offered, for example, by the "SE" model in combination with a slip ring.
